(9-5-12 pt 2) I'LL WHIP YOU, YOU'LL WHIP ME...On August 11, 1974 at
Rodney's English Disco in Hollywood IGGY performed an improvised set piece
called "Murder of the Virgin." It featured RON ASHETON whipping IGGY and ended
with The IG slashing himself with a knife. Plenty of shots of IGGY's bloody
chest have circulated over the years but what I find most interesting is the
look on RON's face both while he's waiting his turn ( see pic ) and when he's
doing the deed. Either he's a great actor or he's really getting something off
HIS chest. At this time The STOOGES were kaput and RON has said that if it
wasn't for IGGY's ( and Scott's and Williamson's) enormous drug intake the band
"could've been the American Rolling Stones." Is RON taking out on IGGY's bare
torso some of his understandable frustration at The STOOGE's inglorious demise?
Just speculatin'...

A STARR IS BORN
(9-5-12) SWEET JANES PROXIMITY...Happy belated B-Day (8/15) to
the late miss groupie supreme SABLE STARR , seen here with groupie galpal Lori
Maddox throwing a double team on The IG. "Those were different
times.."....ain't they always?
PS ..check out Blooge archives "Lonely
Planet Boy" (4/23/12) and "Starr Time" (4/18/12) for more SS
action.
12 O'CLOCK HIGH
(9-4-12) HIGH NOON...Detroit's CREEM Magazine shows it's pride
in Motor-City homeboy IGGY POP by featuring him in the top of the clock position
on its August '73 cover story about "Rock's Deca-Sexual Elite"( The IG's actual
record sales were almost non-existent compared to those of the other featured
'elite'). Look up 'Decasexual' now and you'll find it defined as "a person
sexually attracted to objects, males, females, hermaphrodites, and animals in
two dimensional form (animated or drawn)." I'm thinkin' Creem had a different
definition in mind back in '73...

THE BOOK OF MORONS
(8-31-12) WHAT, ME WORK?.... I 'm taking this Monday off from
The Blooge to celebrate LABOR DAY...maybe I'll read a book. But have no qualms
or trepidations, I will return and justify your faith in me indubitably. I'm
sure the vicissitudes I'll encounter will have me elevated to a lofty position.
Rock On!

TALE OF THE PUP
(8-31-12 #2) POP IS POP SPELLED BACKWARDS...Here's a bonus blooge
featuring a current shot of POP with a Stooge's best friend.
K-NEIN
(8-31-12) PET SHOP BOY...Check out VH 1's "Hard Rock Calling 2012" for a
performance by the STOOGES of "I Wanna Be Your Dog" at a festival in London.
IGGY comes on at about the 48 minute mark. The best part is when the STOOGES
'bring it down' and IGGY tells the world: "If I was a dog, everybody would
love me...even YOU would love me...if I was a dog..."
PS...Watch for
former YARDBIRD Jimmy Page checking out the action from the sidelines.
THEM YET AGAIN
(8-30-12 #2) IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO STOP NOW...A happy B-Day ( 8/31/'45)
to Irish singer, songwriter, and curmudgeon George Ivan "VAN" MORRISON. In June
of '66 ( pray tell, when else?) Van's band THEM and The Doors jammed on Them's
"GLORIA" at the World Famous Whisky Au Go Go in Hollywood USA. We've already
established IGGY's and the MC 5's connection to "GLORIA" and other Them classics
( see archives for 1/3/12 and 4/4/12 ). Add to those the IG's live version of
Them's "Little Girl", which was part of a medley with "No Fun" and "Waiting For My Man" which IGGY performed on his '83 tour of Australia. Check it out on the (
you guessed it ) "Nuggets" CD of rare live IGGY performances.
PS. If
you're interested in an easy way to collect all of Van's best work just buy
everything up to his 1968 LP "Astral Weeks", then STOP. Hey, I've just saved
you hundreds of bucks!
DIRT
(8-30-12) SUCK WITH THIS...On this day in 1901 British engineer Hubert Cecil
Booth patented the first motorized VACUUM CLEANER. Household appliances were an
important part of the PSYCHEDELIC STOOGES first shows back in '67. Along with
playing the vacuum IGGY used a modified blender (renamed "The Osterizer") to
create waterfall like sound effects. When chillin' out in the mid '80's from the
wild ROCK N'ROLL lifestyle IGGY found great comfort in everyday domestic
activities like vacuuming.
FUN QUOTE: John Sinclair on trying to promote
the STOOGES: " The Stooges weren't something you could send a promo kit on;
sending out a demo tape would be like sending them a vacuum cleaner."

MARK, DON, MEL, & IGGY
(8-29-12) SIN'S A GOOD MAN'S STOOGE...August '69 saw
the release of the first LP by Homer Simpson's favorite band GRAND FUNK
RAILROAD. Featuring ( in Homer's words ) the "shirtless lyrics" of Mark Farner, the "bong rattlin'
bass" of Mel Schacher, and the
"competent drumming" of Don Brewer. Their later LP's, recorded by high profile
producers like Todd Rundgren and Jimmy Ienner, haven't aged so well for me.
Conversely their much reviled , Blue Cheer on reds sounding early vinyl
recordings by band Svengali and novice producer Terry Knight sound almost
avant-garde in their low-fi rawness. It's as if some 'luded out hippie dunked
the analog tape in a barrel of Ripple and then mixed it down as quickly as
possible in some converted carburetor repair sweat shop of a studio. Sounds killer!
IG Connect # 1...Before he was a Grand Funker Mel was a bassist
with Question Mark and the Mysterians, who's " 96 Tears" was one of many sixties
garage classics performed by IGGY on his solo tours. Check out the IG's
"Nuggets" CD for a live version recorded in '83.
IG Connect # 2...IGGY
has claimed that his "shirtless" style of (un)dress has been 'ripped off' by
perennially bare-chested Mark Farner. Mr. Farner has vehemently denied the
charges. Hey, no shirt off MY back...
BOW DOWN # 2
(8-28-12) REBIRTH OF THE BOW...IGGY again dons the bow! But this time
he's getting paid for it.
My father retired from his grocery clerk job at
about the same age IGGY is now. On his final day at work Dad pulled off his bow
tie and, in front of his cheering soon to be ex-fellow employees, flung the
offending garment across the store. A typically gallant and funny gesture by
my Pops...Since I've already thrown out my back I'm not sure what I'll toss when
I split this gig....eggs? ...grenades?...paper cups?
TIE ONE ON
(8-28-12) BOTOXIC...Today is NATIONAL BOW TIE DAY! When IGGY wore a
bow tie without a shirt during the early 70's it became a big fashion influence
on the Chippendale's Male Dance Reviews (i.e. strippers ) for women later in
the decade. IGGY was so embarrassed by the association he didn't wear a bow tie
again for another 40 years.
ROCK N' ROLL CALL
(8-27-12) ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN...August of '64 saw the
release of the LP "Two Great Guitars" by CHUCK BERRY and BO DIDDLEY. I was lucky enough to see
Chuck and Bo live back in the early '70's when they still put on amazing shows;
full of energy and nothing but one classic song after another. With Bo gone that
leaves only Chuck, Jerry Lee, Little Richard, and Fats left from the original
Golden Age of ROCK N'ROLL . Elvis, Eddie, Gene, Ray, Buddy, Roy....funny how we
know all these guys by their first names....
IGGY met Bo on an elevator
once. IGGY didn't say anything at first. He waited until his floor came and
then he got off, turned around, and just before the elevator door closed he
thanked "Mr. Diddley" for all the great music. I wonder if Bo had any idea who
this funny looking, little white guy was...

GRATUITOUS CUTE-ATOUS
(8-24-12) BABY, IT CAN'T FAIL...A mere two months after
dedicating a whole week of blooges to LUST FOR LIFE here I am using this month's
anniversary of the LP's release in '77 as a pretext for posting yet MORE
pictures of BABY GLORIA. Being a big BO DIDDLEY fan Gloria digs the beat of the
title track. Fact is, she can ride with the whole LP; with the possible
exception of "Turn Blue", which tends to lull her to sleep. But that's a good
thing!
PS..I know the picture is kinda small but use it as the
screensaver on your computer and it grows to gigantic
proportions..

NIAGARA FALLS ?
(8-24-12) SLOWLY I TURNED...STEP BY STEP....Happy B-Day (8/23) to
NIAGARA DETROIT. Niagara sang lead in two bands with RON; Destroy All Monsters and Dark Carnival. She also has a thriving career as an artist, with exhibitions
such as "All Men Are Cremated Equal" and "Faster Niagara, KILL KILL". There are
many great images of Niagara and her art on the Web. But since it's HER B-Day I
thought she might dig this one...bookended by RON & FRED "SONIC " SMITH.
What can you say?....some seriously sexy people here...
WHO ASKED YOU
(8-23-12) MY FRIENDS CALL ME KEITH BUT YOU CAN CALL ME IGGY....IGGY
rides piggy on the back of B-Day loon KEITH MOON at some industry soiree back
in the '70's.
Interviewer to Keith: " We just shot a lot of film
with the interview..and I was wondering..now could you really tell us the truth
and stop lying?"
Keith: " Oh, no....the truth as you want to hear
it? I can't do that. You couldn't afford me."

LATELY THINGS DON'T SEEM THE SAME
(8-22-12) THE WIND CRIES IGGY...Today is the
day back in '67 that "Are You Experienced" by the JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE was
unleashed upon an unsuspecting American citizenry. It sounded to me at the time
like a weird mix of the Yardbirds, Wilson Pickett, and Bob Dylan; only LOUDER
and at times funnier ( people forget how funny much of the work of Dylan, JIMI,
Cream..etc. was to listeners at the time). Of course, now it just sounds like
JIMI. And while Sgt. Pepper , which kept RUX out of # 1, sounds sooo 1967 (in a
good way) RUX screams out not only '67 but '57, and 2007, and 2107 and every
"7" until the 'end of time'.....just play the music and let JIMI 'prove it to
ya.....'
BTW..Check out Little Steven's Underground Garage website for a
great interview with IGGY. A still awed IG recalls being a few feet from JIMI
in a small Michigan club, with JIMI wearing the same psychedelic vest He wore on
the American EUX LP cover.
PS. Imagine being so on 'fire' as an artist
that you have so many fab tunes that you gotta leave songs like "Stone Free''
and "Red House" OFF your LP?
B.S..Since my computer crashed in mid-August
I have been able to find again all the pictures I had planned on posting for
this month, until today. I've scowered the internet all week but I couldn't
relocate the picture I wanted to use for today's blooge. Manic depression,
indeed..

MY KIND OF TOWN
(8-21-12) HIATT
RIOT...Have a little faith in JOHN HIATT, born 8/20/'52. IGGY recorded John's
"Something Wild" on his "Brick By Brick" LP. It was even
scheduled to be released as the IG's
follow-up single to "Candy" but cooler heads prevailed and the much
more revelatory "Buttown" was released in its stead. Of course "Buttown", aided by its
high budget video, went on to sell millions and become the City of Los
Angeles's Official Anthem.
P.S. I dig John's
albums "Bring The Family", "Slow Turning", and
"Perfectly Good Guitar"....maybe you will, too..

GOOD TIMES, BAD TIMES
(8-20-2012) "GOLLUM
AND THE EVIL ONE SET THIS DUDE UP.."...Hats off to ROBERT PLANT (b.8/20/'48). I'm sure IGGY and the lemon squeezer, both young lead
singin' Rock gods during the early '70's, had a lot to talk about...especially
if Bobby was buying....hell, they probably didn't even have to pay for their
drinks!

HOT GENERATION
(8-17-12) MRS. FARMER....PAULA PIERCE, leader of LA Paisley
Underground favorites the PANDORAS, died this month on the tenth back in 1991. I
saw the Pandoras open for IGGY back in the "Blah, Blah, Blah" days. By then they had a fun but
rather generic hard rock sound. Their real glory days was as a band playing
sixties style garage rock in the early/mid '80's. Back when Paula was LA's very
own female SKY SAXON. The whole world misses Paula, whether they know it or
not.
DESPERATELY SEEKING STOOGES
(8-17-2012) JUSTIFY MY COOL...Happy B-Day ( 8/16 ) to
MADONNA LOUISE CICCONE. When she was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame she
had the STOOGES play her songs live in her stead. RON, ever the cynic, thought
she was doing it just so she could bask in what RON called that " STOOGE'S
SHINE". Ultimate STOOGE coolness aside, I hope RON said that with a little
smile on his face...methinks it was a pretty cool thing for her to do no matter
how you look at it. She could of gotten someone like Lady GaGa to do it, after
all. Besides, she got to hang with Burroughs, so who needs
cool?
BTW...STOOGE bass thumper MIKE WATT was in a group with members of
Sonic Youth called Ciccone Youth who did Madonna covers.
P.S.What do you get when you mix Burroughs' and Madonna's books? A Naked Lunch, of course!
P.S.What do you get when you mix Burroughs' and Madonna's books? A Naked Lunch, of course!
DON'T BE CRUEL
(8-16-2012) ( NOW AND THEN THERE'S) FOOLS SUCH AS THEM...Today back in
'77 ELVIS left the building for the last time. While listening to a "classic"
rock station today I heard that amazing live version of "Suspicious Minds." And even after
THAT finished the ex-hippy DJ had to make some fat ELVIS jokes. I doubt we'll be
hearing too many jokes on the future anniversaries of the deaths of such
heavyweights as "Elton" and Roger Waters. Heard any good Freddy Mercury gags lately? The IG
'll out live 'em all!
DON'T BOGART THAT BUK
(8-16-2012) PASS IT ON...Wayne Kramer's great first solo CD
"The Hard Stuff" features a hidden track called "So Long, Hank", in which
Brother Wayne relates his reaction to reading CHARLES BUKOWSKI'S ( b. 8/16/20 ) novel "Factotum." Lo
and behold, the very next day after I heard Kramer's song I found the book on
sale and I too "saw myself on the page"; working low level jobs and "drinking,
fucking up, with crazy, negative girlfriends." And I realized why I had never
read "On the Road" or "Catcher On the Rye." I was waiting for Bukowski, who
opened up my mind's eye to that mug in the mirror I saw everyday but couldn't
begin to really see. Sorta like RAW POWER.....
If you are interested in
delving into Buk's massive catalog of work I suggest you start with his novels
featuring his alter-ego Hank Chinaski ( "Ham On Rye","Factotum", "Post
Office","Women" ) and his great book of short stories "South of No North."
PS...Although I didn't realize it when I first moved in, until recently I had
been living for the last ten years in the same style bungalow as Hank; which was
just around the corner from me at 5124 DeLongpre in the same neighborhood where
he wrote most of his classic work. Some people think that the fact that his old
pad has been declared a "Historic-Cultural Monument" by the city of Los Angeles
is somekinda disgrace to Bukowski's memory. I'd like to think he'd get a good
laugh out of it. Maybe even a cool poem...And thanks again, Brutha
Wayne!
PENILE CODE
(8-14-2012) SINS OF THE SON....On August 11, '68 at a club called Mothers
in Romeo, Michigan, IGGY POP's penis made its first public appearance. IGGY flipped over backwards, his pants
fell off, and the joint was soon crawling with coppers. In a charming happy
ending to this sordid tale IGGY was bailed out by his Dad, whom the young Jim
placated by joining the elder Osterberg for a round of golf. FORE!
I'M BACK
(8-14-2012) TESTES..TESTES....Hello, fellow Bloogers..I just gots a new
computer setup here and I'm trying it out...let me know if you get this!
The picture is of IGGY on his B-day this year, hangin' out at a record store on
Record Store Day! Salt of the earth...
DEATH TRIP
RUNAWAY SON OF A NUCLEAR A-BOMB # 3
(8-9-12) NAGASAKI...Today is the anniversary
(1945) of the last time an atomic weapon was used on a city. The bomb's name was
"Fat Man". The caption for this photo says it was taken at the "exact moment of
detonation", with those three people in the foreground for a second unaware that
anything has happened. Did they live, and if not, how much time did they have?
What about the cameraman? What we do know is that about 80,000 people died,
about half of them on the first day. Josef Stalin is quoted as saying:"One death
is a tragedy, one million is a statistic." Sorry for this drag of a blooge..no AC
here at work and my teeth are killing me. I'll think of something more fun for
tomorrow...
SOUP TO NUTS
(8-8-2012) POP ART..."I'm afraid that if you look at something long
enough it loses all of it's meaning."
Happy B-Day, ANDY (8/6/28)...and thanks
for telling LOU to "keep the dirty words in."
P.S. I dig this photo..it
reminds me of an ALFRED HITCHCOCK movie where Hitch makes his cameo appearance.
SCHLOCKADELIC STOOGES
(8-7-12) FOR A FEW STOOGES MORE...Twenty years ago CLINT EASTWOOD won the Best Picture Academy Award for "Unforgiven." In 1986, while
sitting up in a tree in Laurel Canyon, IGGY was asked by MTV what he thought
about Clint. The IG talked about how as a youth he would save up his change and
go to any Clint flick, especially the westerns. IGGY then paused for a few
seconds with a faraway look on his face. Then he slowly said: "You know..it was
a schlocky kinda magic, I guess...but damn, it got me through."

IGGY DON'T
(8-9-2012) A-POP-BOPALOOBOP
ALOPBAMBOOM!..This day in the late '50's original ROCK N'ROLL giant LITTLE
RICHARD rocked Louisville ...for
99 cents! The STOOGES live CD, recorded at RICHARD'S in Atlanta GA
and included in the deluxe version of RAW POWER, is called "Georgia
Peaches." I'd like to think this is a tribute to Georgia born
RICHARD PENNIMAN, who's nickname is "The Georgia Peach." A live
version of "Rip It Up" by IGGY from 1994 is available on the
"Roadkill Rising" CD. And of course the MC 5's colossal "Back In
The USA" LP opens with "Tutti Frutti." Ooh! My Soul!
MASTER OF MUPPETS
(8-3-2012) KERMIT'S HERMITS..Our favorite blonde DEBBIE HARRY
began filming her appearance on episode 509 of the Muppet Show on 8/4/'86.
During a fab 2006 BBC documentary called "One Way Or Another" IGGY
calls Blondie the last great American pop music group. He describes the
Debster's early performances as: "Barbarella on speed." The IG also
mentions how both he and BOWIE tried hitting on Deb. "She was really cool
about it," says IGGY of their unsuccessful attempts, "she said maybe another time when Chris ain't around..."

METALLICA KO'D
(8-2-12) FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLED..IGGY here
shakin' paws with B-Day dude (8/3/'63) James Hetfield at some industry
lovefest. Whatever suburban stoner apocalyptic charm Metallica had died with
Cliff "Lead Bassist" Burton .
Check out his wacked-out bass solos from the "Cliff "EM All"
video collection on YouTube. And check out Lars pouting in the background of
this picture. Remember those good old MTV days when, while accepting a MTV
video award on MTV, Lars would brag during his acceptance speech about how they
made it big without MTV or videos? Who's the master and who's the puppet?

SINGLE OF THE MONTH
(8-1-12) NOWHERE WITH A
BULLET!..A new feature here at the Blooge! Criteria: A fabulous A-side with an
equally bitchen/interesting/rare B-side. Plus a cool picture sleeve and some
vague IG connect.
The STOOGES' first 45 changed everything. After appearances
on Ed Sullivan, the Smothers Brothers, and the Carol Burnett shows the single
shot straight to number one, securing the band a headlining gig at Woodstock where after
taking the brown acid IGGY threw up all over Abbie Hoffman and...actually, the
single and LP went nowhere fast. Most people, if they knew about the band at
all, hated them and thought they were a bad joke. Hippy DJ's wrote "
dogshit" on the STOOGES" LP covers and used them as frisbees. Maybe
the STOOGES should have named themselves

DA DO RON RON
(7-31-12) BORN UNDER AN IRON
CROSS..Can't leave July without celebratin' the B-Day of RONALD " RON" ASHETON ( 7/17/'48). From a wide variety of choices AMANDA picked this
photo, finding it the most "iconic". It is indeed the RON we all know
and love. Let's also hear it for RON's mom ANN ASHETON, for bringing up two DumDum boys and one Wild Child of a daughter ( Kathy ) all by herself.
Make Mine Japanese!
Make Mine Japanese!
MONSTER OF THE MONTH
7-30-12 MAIN MAN
It's hard to look at the mug of the author of these lyrics,
New York Doll David Johansen, and not be reminded of Jumpin' Mick Jagger. Mick
had his 69th B-Day this July 26.
aw..some other time, Mick...I'm going home..
NAZI GIRLFRIEND
(7-27-12) TODAY YOUR LOVE,
TOMORROW THE WORLD...First things first, CLARA BOW (B-Day July 29) was no
National Socialist! Explanations for this photo vary, from it being pre-Third
Reich (doubtful) to Clara being coerced into wearing it by Paramount executive
B.P. Schulberg while the two of them were in Germany sometime in the '30's.
B.P. also talked C.B. into meeting Hitler. The Fuhrer was a big Clara Bow fan
and the foreign film market, like today, was very important to Hollywood . Google "Clara Bow Swastika
Scandal" for a 'full report'.
IG CONNECTION:
"Nazi Girlfriend" is a groovy little ballad (really!) off of IGGY's
adventurous "Avenue B" CD. It'd make a great 45 picture sleeve, if
any record label was crazy enough to send a single called "Nazi
Girlfriend" to radio stations.
FUN FACT: That bell
shaped flapper hat that Clara is wearing is called a "cloche". I
always wondered what they were called..
GOT NO IDOLS
7-26-12 REBEL GLORIA...July
27 is the B-Day of the fabulous JULIANA HATFIELD, who's band the Blake Babies
recorded a loose version of the STOOGES' "Loose". I miss all those
melodic but rough, combative but fun, difficult but desirable, and always
individualistic rockin' women from the '90's. Bands like the Breeders, Scrawl,
Belly, L7, Mecca Normal, Bikini Kill, Hole, Blue Lies, Bratmobile..etc. As we
live thru these dark, Amerikan Idol ages, here's hoping there will be something
cool in the future for our daughter..or maybe GLORIA will just have to start a
riot of her own...
BTW..speaking of the
'90's; "DANCE WITH JULIANA" was code used by some of my friends for
breaking out the blow, which they hid in their Juliana Hatfield "Become
What You Are" CD. No prize for guessing what they kept in their Motorhead
"No Remorse" CD.
HE'LL TAKE SWEDEN
JA, I IGGY
POP..Here's a cool poster for a gig IGGY played on this day in Sweden back in2002. Footage from this show is easily found on the world wide web. RA POTENS!!

SLASH AND BORE
7-24-2012 SWEET STOOGE OF
MINE...July 23, 1965 is SLASH's B-Day. His guitar work is all over IGGY's"Brick By Brick" LP but for my money Slash's best solo is on
"Ain't No Nice Guy" from MOTORHEAD's "March Or Die" CD. The
only Guns N' Roses music I ever purchased was their "CIVIL WAR"
cassette single, so instead of another boring shot of Slash's hat here's a
painting of the Monitor and the Merrimac. Nothing cooler than an ironclad; to
quote LINCOLN
when he was first shown the design for the Monitor: "All I have to say is
what the girl said when she stuck her foot in the stocking. It strikes me
there's something in it."
BTW..IGGY also sang
and wrote the lyrics to a song called 'We're All Gonna Die" from Slash's
solo CD. IGGY first left the lyrics on Slash's answering machine and Slash
claimed it " set the tone for the whole record." Here's some sample
lyrics:
" Gee, I really
like your tits,
I'll say anything
that fits.
We're all gonna
die,
So lets get high.
I'm in the mood,
So let's intrude.

GREEK TO ME
7-23-12 FRIENDS, ROMANS,
STOOGES...While playing a gig in Athens ,
Greece in July
of 1996 IGGY got hit with a bottle thrown at him by a member of the audience. IGGY responded by screaming: "Somebody hit me with a
bottle! You can't kill ME! I'm IGGY POP! I'LL KILL YOU!" Years later,in
July of 2007, the IG again plays Athens
and AGAIN gets hit with a bottle. This time IGGY screams : "You can't stop
ME! I AM IMMORTAL!" Could IGGY have gotten the Parthenon ( Athens/temple
of Athena) mixed up with the Pantheon ( Rome/temple to all the Gods)? I know I
did. James Osterberg, student of ancient history, wouldn't have.
I BID YOU...WELCOME...
7-20-13 BURNIN' DOWN THE FUNHOUSE...Just reminding you'all about the Fun House warming party this Saturday

thirty years ago this month IGGY was on the cover of ROCK SCENE magazine.
"OVER 150 PHOTOS", at least 130 of them featuring the smug mug of

they had great taste in music!
LONG WAY BACK TO GERMANY
7-18-12 EULOGY TO CHRISTA
PAFFGEN..On this day in 1988 NICO died. Her body was sent back to Berlin to be buried next
to her mother. In 1969 Nico moved
into the FUN HOUSE for two weeks, teaching the ASHETON BROS. about fine
European wines and teaching IGGY cunnilingus. Said IGGY in 1983:
"And I thought:
'what is a sophisticated lady like her, what does she want to do out where I
am? She must be nuts.' She was, and I owe her the world."

HAVE BO WILL TRAVEL
7-17-12 LAME TO THEBRAIN..July saw the release of two classic BO DIDDLEY albums; his second LP
"Go Bo Diddley('59) and his third LP "Have Guitar Will Travel('60).
Like his first LP, his second was all killa, no filla. His third contains
classics like "Mona" and "Cops and Robbers". RAY DAVIES, while
being a guest VJ on MTV back in the '80's, expressed dismay that George
Thorogood's "Bad To The Bone" video would show George beating Bo in a
pool game. I'd add that having George become the hero over Bo to all the poor
kids in "the hood" was at best in rather dubious taste. You could've
made the video and STILL lost the game, George...that's called the blues...

THUNDER FROM THE EAST
7-16-12 BORN TOO LOOSE..July 15, 1952 is the B-Day of
John Anthony Genzale, Jr. aka JOHNNY THUNDERS. I'll move over, Bloogers, and
let Jimmy O. take over:
"CHARACTER"
by Iggy Pop 1993
" Well, I'll tell you,
One good thing at least
about some of these
junkies
was they had some character...
At least they played the damn guitar
like they meant it..
These white bread boys nowadays,
knowin' all the
score,
don't even know how to puke.

ARTHUR RAISED A KANE
7-13-12 KANE MUTINY...Here's the NEW YORK DOLLS, as usual looking
impossibly cool and sublimely ridiculous simultaneously. ARTHUR
"KILLER" KANE split the scene this day back in 2004. Even if you
don't dig the Dolls ( ? ) you should check out the documentary about Arthur
called "New York Doll." Like with RON ASHETON, it's gratifying to
know Arthur got some respect/kicks before he bowed out. It's what was once
called a "great human interest story", back when our stars were still
recognizably human and had interesting stories to tell.
COMIC-CHAMELEON
7-12-12 THE BIG 'BANG BANG' THEORY..Today is the start of COMIC-CON.
In this Blooge's photo IGGY is playing some character named Yelgrum (he's the
one on the right) from a Star Trek-Deep Space Nine episode called "The
Magnificent Ferengi" (I swear I didn't know that already, I had to look it
up!).
While Nickelodeon's "Pete & Pete" captured a
bit of James Osterberg's natural charm, for the most part Mr. Pop's acting
career has not been memorable. He knows it too and he was wise to stop. Most of
his life has been some kind of bizarro world version of Clark
Kent/Superman(Jim/Iggy)anyway. So why should he bother to play act?
Also on this day:
2. IGGY's first wedding, back in '69. Since the bride was
Jewish, best man RON ASHETON decided not to wear his SS outfit. He wore his
Luftwaffe uniform instead.
I WANNA BE YOUR BONZO DOG
7-10-12 STOOGES OVER LONDON ..From the July 8,
1972 pages of Melody Maker, an advert for a "IGGY POP, ex-Iggy & the Stooges"
show on the 15th. As the late Ernie "DUTCH" Borgnine might have said:
"Ex Stooges yer BUTT!!" This was the imfamous, pre RAW POWER, only
European show by Iggy AND the Stooges (with the FLAMIN' GROOVIES!). In
attendance were the FUTURE PUNKS OF ENGLAND (Johnny Rotten, Joe Strummer, Mick
Jones, Brian James, Siouxsie Sioux). It changed lives and was the REAL start of
the British Punk scene. To quote Nick Kent: "The total effect was more
frightening than all the Alice Coopers and Clockwork Oranges put together,
simply because these guys weren't joking."
P.S. Attention BONZODOG fans! Salivate over the line-up on the 8th!!
TURA! TURA! TURA!
7-10-12 FOUR DEGREES
FROM IGGY..Child bride, internment camps, martial arts, gang leader, model,
burlesque queen, police dispatcher, revenger, singer and subject of songs,
movies, TV, Harold Lloyd, Billy Wilder, Tempest Storm, ELVIS, Russ Meyer, a
cult legend; these are all part of the amazing life of the incredible TURASATANA, born today in 1938. Like Bogie as Rick, Boris as The Monster, Bela as
Drac, MM as Lorelei, and Laughton as Bligh, Tura'a VARLA in Russ Meyer's
"Faster Pussycat, KILL! KILL!" is one of American cultures most
indelible icons. And she wrote much of her own dialogue, too ("I don't
beat clocks, I beat PEOPLE!").
IG/CONNECT: Tura
worked with Russ who worked with Steve Jones ( "Who Killed Bambi?")
who worked with IGGY.
FUN FACT # 1 : A young ELVIS proposed marriage to Tura, who
turned The King down but kept the ring. Imagine a child by ELVIS and Tura!
FUN FACT # 2 : At the end of an episode of The Man FromU.N.C.L.E. ("Finny Foot Affair") Napoleon Solo asks Tura's character
if she is going to join her dead boss in death by committing Hara Kiri. She replies:
"You got the wrong century, JACK!"
FUN FACT # 3 : Varla is the first female movie character to
kill a man with her bare hands.
ERNIE R.I.P.
7-9-12 BONUS BLOOGE GOING DUTCH..Yesterday 7/8/12 the great ERNEST BORGNINE shipped out for the last time. Some friends and I watched the WILD BUNCH last night as a tribute. There's at least a dozen iconic Ernie moments in the film; here's a fitting one:
"I think the boys are right. I'd like to say a
few words for the dear, dead departed.
And maybe a few
HYMNS'D be in order. Followed by a church
supper...WITH A CHOIR!"
Thanks, EB...we "wouldn't have it any other way."
